The Beaux-Arts Court at Brooklyn Museum was buzzing with hundreds of Cool Culture families, volunteers, staff, and community partners and artists during our February Bring the Cool Family Festival.
Participants rotated between a variety of activities including, African-inspired mask making with Juliet James, Goddess clay-making with Seema Shakti, protest mural art, tissue paper bouquet making with Brooklyn Museum, and our community mapping project, tracking places to nourish wellbeing across the neighborhood.
Families also enjoyed two interactive performances! They sang, clapped and danced with Baba Yah from BK Music Learning, and followed along with Manuela Agudelo as she taught them moves from Colombian cumbia dancing. Reading for Black Lives held a diverse book giveaway and introduced caregivers and young children to the variety of options from their display.
In the newly opened Toby Devan Lewis Education Center, families could add to the installation “Artland” by Do Ho Suh and children and take a break or grab a snack in the rest and relaxation room. Others wandered the galleries filling out their bingo cards.
We had a blast making-art, exploring exhibits, dancing and singing-along with our community members and look forward to gathering again at a future event. Stay tuned!
